About the Breed

Owning a Brachycephalic breed of dog, like a bulldog pays off in cuteness but can come with a price. Their short or almost absent snout leaves little room for important parts like their long tongues that usually stick out! Bulldogs can over heat & get overly exhausted very easy in hot or humid weather or in uncomfortable circumstances that can cause anxiety or stress. Please be aware of your babies tolerence to any changes from their usual comfort level. Research bulldog genetic disorders & understand how common BAS or BAOS is with the breed. Cherry eyes, although not life threatening, are another common issue with these flat faced love bugs. We do our best to only breed the healthiest mini bulldogs to bring the healthiest little puppies into the world! We also have tips to keep your bulldog from over heating, and what to do in case of emergency!

So you want a cute little snorting bundle of wrinkles? Well your new puppy will quite possibly require some extra tlc daily. Wiping in between the tight wrinkles & folds with medicated wipes & applying wrinkle balm should keep the ick away! We recommend a medicated shampoo if you’re seeing any yeast or signs of bacteria. But if that doesn’t quite cut it, your vet should be able to get your fur baby feeling & smelling good again!

Skin issues, allergy & non allergy related are common in the breed (and most other purebred dogs as well). Some may require a simple fix of diet elimination, such as wheat or chicken. Others may come & go with seasons if it’s outdoor allergens. Yard treatments, harsh chemicals, etc could also be the culprit. Your bulldog can take 1mg per pound of body weight of Benadryl tablet 2x a day. If you can’t get your fur baby feeling it’s furry best, your vet may need to prescribe a anti itch pill to take at home daily, or do an in office injection, and if sores are open a highly recommended skin antibiotic Cephelixin.

Bulldogs are so different than the normal breeds of dogs, from the beginning to the end! They not only require more daily care than your typical short hair canine companion, but they would also not exist if it weren't for help from us humans! They are truly a manmade dog! Male bulldogs are usually too short legged to be able to perform a natural tie in mating & even in the instance they did, they can get hurt badly by the female! A female bulldogs birth canal is so small compared to the size of the baby bulldogs wide chests & shoulders that the female (dam) must have a c-section to deliver her pups. Coming out of surgery, the momma dogs hormones don't kick in right away, they are also a bit out of it from going under anesthesia & meds... but the neonatal pups must nurse on the momma right away for about an hour- every other hour at minimum. These nursings must be supervised & assisted by us humans to ensure the survival of the pups until they are weaned.

Artificial insemenations, progesterones (hormone testing required to know when to schedule creation), ultrasounds, X-rays (to get puppy count), the c-section & 24hr care all add up! Not to forget our momma dogs will be at risk... and the years of care for them to get to breeding age. We do not breed our dams more than 3 times. And we do not breed all of the females we kept hoping to breed. We strive to only breed the healthiest & cutest little bulldogs!
